General Physical Description		The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a small sized, sturdy little dog that is set low to the ground. Their straight, medium or short length coat is waterproof. They have a fox like brush for a tail, and their head has the look of a fox also. They are much longer than they are tall.

History		Records have been discovered that states that the Cardigan Welsh Corgi has existed in the UK since about 1200 BC. They are thought to have been brought to Wales by the Celts. They were very popular as cattle drovers. The Cardigan and Pembroke Corgis were recognised as separate breeds in the UK in 1934.
Intelligence		The Cardigan is an intelligent dog that loves a challenge. They are not too difficult to train but they can to take over the training sessions if given the chance. As puppies they do require to be properly socialised and trained.
Show Characteristics		The head should appear fox like, and be flat and wide between the ears. The muzzle should taper and the jaw is strong with a complete scissor bite. The eyes should be of medium size, set wide and preferably dark in colour. Their ears should be erect and slightly rounded at the tip; the ears are large in relation to the overall size of the dog. The neck should be muscular and flow into the well-developed shoulders. The chest should be broad and the topline level. The front legs should short; the back legs should also be short and muscular. The feet should be round, tight and large. Their movement should be free and active with the front legs moving well forward. The tail should be fox like, nearly touching the ground. The tail is carried low when the dog is stationary, and carried slightly above the body when moving; it should never be curled over the back. The coat should be of short or medium length, straight, weatherproof and have a good undercoat. Any colour is acceptable in the show ring, as long as white is not the dominant colour.

They do get on well with children as long as they are treated with respect. They are ideally suited to the active family. They should be socialised and training started at an early age.

Grooming		The coat of the Corgi is of short or medium length, straight and waterproof with a dense undercoat. This coat needs a small amount of time spent on grooming. They do need to be brushed to remove any loose and dead hairs. If they have been out in the mud then it is easy to remove the dirt once it has dried.
