It is used to interupt bad behaviour by your dog without rewarding it by giving it attention. If your dog jumps up, or chews something or steals something you can easily grab hold of the end of the house line without the dog being able to bite you or to run away. I was hoping I could diffuse his excitement better without having to be so hands on with him but unfortunately it made no difference and actually made it more difficult to control him because the line is so thin and there is no handle.
