Almost 64% of cases of feline lower urinary tract disease are caused by idiopathic cystitis. Clinical trials have shown significant reduction of recurrence of idiopathic cystitis in those cats maintained on Urinary S/O wet diet. Urinary effectively dissolves struvite uroliths. Undersaturated urine is an environment where crystals cannot proliferate. Thus the urine is unfavourable to the development of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. Glycosaminoglycans that are naturally found on the healthy bladder mucosa are reduced in idiopathic cystitis.
