The only down sides is it cannot be plugged into the mains plus the fitting plate needed cutting to fit. I'd read about micro-ship cat flaps but the +££££ price tags I was seeing was making me think a twice! Best bit 'the learning mode' literally took seconds and was painless for both me and Dibble! It's still early days but he is calmer and much less prone to scratching and 'hiding' his food. Plus points - battery operated, fits the original hole in my door and was operational in seconds. Was delivered within 3 days. Fitted perfectly in to the existing hole of the standard cat flap so no modification was needed apart from needing a touch of paint round about due to the overall size being smaller. Slight problem lining up one of the screws - but apart from that pretty easy to fit. Very simple to programme cats in. Both used to it very quickly. The clicking noise it makes when locking/unlocking didn't seem to bother them. Only one negative point. The flap door itself isn't a tight fit, so you do feel a cold draught coming in round about it, but apart from that, very happy with this product. This cat flap has solved that problem. Secondly I've just got 2 new kittens and it allows the older ones to come and go whilst keeping the young ones indoors. One point to note if you are replacing a more 'standard' cat flap the screw holes will not line up new ones are required slightly inside the existing ones. Registered her microchip in about 2 minutes. Fitting was extremely simple following instructions. Took a while to train her to use it but once she got the hang of it there was no stopping her. The only problem we had was the different level outside the door so we had to build it up using large concrete blocks.The height is fine now and she loves it. It is also simple to lock the flap at night so she stays in protected. We had a problem with neighbourhood cats using our previous cat flap, terrorising our cats and marking territory, which was wholly unpleasant. We looked at magnetic and infrared solutions which were all similar in price, but the cost of continually replacing lost collar sensors is an issue. Not with this.
