	Incontinent Bedlington Terrier Q: our 4 year old bedlington terrier bitch has periods of incontinence and, though our vet has kept her overnight with no leaking and says it is a behavioural problem, we are not convinced and think she has a weak bladder. sometimes there is no problem for longish periods then other times she is continually dripping, including while asleep or relaxing and even during walks. I am concerned because she is a house dog and much loved pet and feel unable to have her on my lap and certainly not on the furniture. what do you suggest?

A: I urge you to return to your vet and describe this pattern of occasional urine leakage again, stressing the point that urine is sometimes leaked whilst your dog is sleeping, walking etc. It sounds as though she is experiencing sphincter mechanism incontinence, although it is important that other causes or urine leaking are ruled out.
