Diabetic Dog

Q: Diabetic Dog PetPlanet Vets PPAdmin pettalk@petplanet.co.uk My dog has diabetes, diagnosed in April this year. My vet seems to be having trouble stabilising the diabetes. Are there any specialist vets I could contact. Thanks & regards Deborah Atkins

A:Diabetic Dog PetPlanet Vets PPAdmin pettalk@petplanet.co.uk Dear Deborah There are no vets specialising exclusively in diabetes, but have a word with your vet, as either a bigger clinic or a university may be within reach, to which he could refer you. A larger centre will have more facilities and will see more cases so are likely to be more experienced. A university could well have a specialist endocrinologist available, but all veterinary schools have a small animal clinic. Ongoing cases have to be referred by the vet currently treating them. Going direct yourself will mean they will not deal with you until your own vet has been contacted. June Third-Carter B.V.M.S., M.R.C.V.S., Vet.M.F.Hom. for PetPlanet.co.uk
