	Bitch Recently in Season Q: I have bitch see has just finished her period about two weeks ago, the problem I have is that she is still swollen and has started to show again is this normal. she is eight years old yours sincerely j hartshorn

A: If the season has restarted with a discharge from her vulva, especially if the discharge is different from her normal loss, your bitch may have a womb infection. As the womb goes through its cycles twice a year, the lining undergoes changes, some of which remain from year to year. Eventually, this can develop into a condition called pyometra - which is usually treated by hysterectomy - spaying. If your dog is ill in any way - off food, drinking more than usual, lethargic or vomiting, she should be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Steve Mullender MRCVS vet for petplanet
