	In Season Bullmastiff Q: Hi I have a bullmastiff she is now 15month old she first broke down when she was 8 month old then when she was 12month old then it went on for 6 weeks i took her to our local vet who gave her(i think) some kind of hormone tablet to stop the bleeding it worked now after just over 3 month she has broke down again. is this natural i've never owned a bitch before i have always had dogs so all this is new to me i have read up on it but each different thing you read says different things.Your advice would be really appreciated Thank you Ann Marie

A: Dear Ann Marie I take it you mean coming on heat or into season when you say broke down. She is coming on heat very frequently, most bitches come in once or twice yearly, but at the same time she is still young and may not have settled to her normal pattern yet. A heat followed soon after by another is often seen in young bitches and is normal. This time could just be the hormone the vet gave her wearing off. As long as she is not ill during the season, it is probably best to wait and see how she continues and you may find she settles to a more normal pattern. If not then discuss with your vet how to modify things, or if you did not intend to breed with her, arrange to get her spayed. Another possibility to try would b a homoeopathic remedy, such as Sepia, to regulate her hormonal function.
