Dear Angela It is very important to try and do something about Thumper's problem - If he is still smelly when the warmer weather is here and lives outside, there is every chance that he will get "fly strike". This is when the flies lay their eggs on the smelly bits, and these hatch into maggots.
1) You will need to clean Thumper by bathing him, and if he is actually sore he may need some treatment from the vet - even antibiotics if the skin is infected.
2) Why is he getting mucky? - you may need to change his diet - discuss this with your vet - and add 'probiotics' to his drinking water. Is it because he can't clean himself (many pet rabbits are too overweight to be able to reach their bottoms!), or does he have loose droppings or is sitting in urine. It is very important that his cage is clean and dry. Steve Mullender MRCVS vet for petplanet
