A: Should Male Dog be Neutered? PetPlanet Talk Adminstrator PPAdmin pettalk@petplanet.co.uk
Dear Sue Yes neutering should help your problem. It will almost certainly stop his
amorous side. As far as aggression to other dogs, it may not stop it all together but it should reduce it substantially. The op generally takes about half an hour. He well be a bit sleepy for a day or too after the anaesthetic but otherwise there are no side effects. Some dogs may seem a little depressed for a while but that generally wears off by the time the stitches are removed. Some dogs need to wear a cone on their head to stop them getting at the wound so be prepared for this. Usually vet
practices will take the dog in the morning and you will be able to pick him up later in the day when he has recovered enough from the anaesthetic to walk. Hope this helps. Unfortunately the aggression is not likely to be completely reduced because you are contemplating neutering him as an adult rather than a pup but the op will certainly help you.
