	Yorkie x Jack Russell who is eating a lot of grass Q: I am aware that dogs eat grass occasionally and that this somehow aids their digestion or makes them sick if they need to be. I have never seen a dog eat as much grass as my yorkie/jackrussel cross. When we are out she snatches at pieces of grass almost constantly and eats them with much more relish than she shows at dinnertime. She is a nervous eater at mealtimes and sometimes seems to go for a day or so without eating. Nevertheless, her nose is wet and her stools beautifully formed (I am assuming this information is helpful !) Since dogs normally eat grass when they feel the need to vomit, should I be worried ?

A: Dear Rachael,
I don't think you should be unduly concerned. There is a general belief that dogs eat grass in order to make themselves sick, however the usual case is that some dogs actually enjoy the taste of fresh, sweet grass, and take every opportunity to eat it. As the stomach of the dog is not designed to cope with long fibre this often (but not always) results in their being sick. As your dog is healthy in every other respect, you don't need to worry.
