Dear Alex,
When a cat starts urinating or spraying indoors It is usually an indication that the cat feels upset or challenged by some change in the circumstances in or around the home, which has made it feel emotionally insecure. The problem is to identify the challenge and remove it so that the cat's emotional state can wind down to below the peeing threshold. Unfortunately the influence can be difficult for a human to perceive or even the cumulative effect of relatively minor influences. Different cats also have different threshold levels before they start the behaviour. You have a big cat community there so it's not likely to be easy. Think
carefully if there's been any recent changes in the household or even with the neighbours. Any fights, any bullying any new cats invading the territory? Any new people, emotional upsets to yourself, new furniture, rooms redecorated? Bringing in a behaviourist may help you to spot something which you are unaware of, being right in the middle of it all. Your vet should have a
contact or we have one here for further advice, but someone on the spot is likely to be of more effectiveness. Try not to be stressed yourself just now as the cat's pick that up from you and it worsens the situation. Use an odour eliminator spray, not disinfectant or deodorant on any peed on spots. How to calm the cat, even if you cannot find the cause? My own recommendation
would be to use a Homoeopathic Remedy or a Bach Flower Remedy as these can work deeply on the emotions. I can't recommend which particular remedy, as I do not know enough about the individual involved. If you have a practitioner skilled with these nearby then consult with them. Your own vet should be able to refer you. A human practitioner cannot treat an animal without your vet's consent. Being e-mail I don't know where you are, but The British Association of
Homoeopathic Veterinary Surgeons can be contacted at 01367 710324
