	Advice, Please, on Removing a Tick Q: we have recently found a tick on our dog, and although we removed it with alcohol I'm not sure that we did the right thing, the tick seems to have gone but can you advise me on the right way to remove any future ticks. Yours sincerely Jenny Dale

A: Dabbing the tick with alcohol will kill it so it will let go of the dog's skin and should be easy to remove. The important thing is to remove the whole tick - if a leg is left behind it can cause a nasty reaction in the skin. If in doubt at all, go to your vet to have the dog checked.
