Pets rescued from shop fire [02/07/2009]
tens of animals were saved and a man jumped from his flat during a fire in a Midlands pet shop.

The blaze, in Castle Bromwich, swept through the shop and into the flats above in on Green Lane.

A second man was rescued by firefighters who attempted to tame the blaze, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Hamsters, rabbits and birds were also rescued from the fire which broke out at 03:10 BST at the Castle Aqua Pet Centre.

An ambulance spokesman confirmed that one man in his 20s had jumped from a flat window and hurt his ankle while the other uninjured man had waited to be rescued.

The fire is being investigated after six birds and a number of fish were killed during the incident.

In other news, a pet crematorium in North Shropshire is set to be built after being given the go ahead by the local council, reports the Shropshire Star.
