Cupcakes and Companionship [26/08/2016]
Give a Dog a BoneÖ and an animal a homeí is a small, unique and award-winning charity that helps the over 60ís find a rescue pet companion, tackling both loneliness in later years and the rising numbers of animal homelessness.
On Sunday, 28th August, the Bathgate and Livingston groups of Contact the Elderly are being treated to an afternoon of cupcakes and companionship by Give a Dog a BoneÖand an Animal a Home.
From first-hand experience the Charity knows the benefits pet companionship can bring to the life of an older person. From having a friendly face to talk to in the morning, to providing a routine to the day and a motivation for exercise, the emotional and physical benefits can be vast.
The tea party is the start of what both Charities hope is a long and flourishing friendship that will help to spread the word about the ways Give a Dog a Bone can support tea party members in adopting a pet.
Louise Russell, the founder of Give a Dog Bone... and an animal a home charity said: "The Charity has been set up specifically to support the over 60s population through loneliness, by removing the financial barriers to them rehoming a rescue pet companion. By hosting a tea party for Contact the Elderly we aim to highlight the isolation that our elderly population often endure, as well as providing fun and companionship over a well deserved afternoon out, paid for by the Give a Dog a Bone charity"
The tea party will end with a visit from one of the dogs that have been helped by the Charity! Carmen was a stray dog that, through the network of the charity, found her forever home.
