great for a wee holiday with our hedgehog

Bought so we could take our pet hedgehog hazel on holiday with us. Not big enough for her to permanently live in , but right size for just fitting in boot of car and will keep her warm and safe.

Almost perfect

The cage was almost perfect, however it came with one of the corners broken of the lid this didnt enable the hamster to escape or provide any health risk so it was fine. The bar spacing is also to wide so we put some mesh over it so the hamster couldnt escape. I also think that all though the description says suitable for small animals it would be to small for pets like guinea pigs and even a Syrian hamster.

Great cage, just not suitable for a Syrian

We were looking for a cage for our Syrian hamster and wanted something bigger than those saw at Pets At Home and many others we saw online. We also wanted plastic sides so our cat couldn't get access to her with her claws! The cage looks OK (not beautiful or trendy but perfectly OK) and is solid and most importantly a good size. We do think its a great size for a Syrian (nothing bigger if you're keeping it there longer than a few hours) BUT if you put any toys e.g. bedroom/whatever in there, which obviously you will want to because otherwise its empty, the Syrian can climb on top and (don't ask me how exactly!) jump up to the bars and get through them. I'm serious! We didn't think she could reach the bars but somehow she did and escaped twice; the first time, she chewed holes in our living room carpet in two places and the second time, she got into the wall space and we had to remove two skirting boards to get her out! SO do not underestimate your clever, jumping, stretching, climbing Syrian friend. We've ordered a different cage and in the meantime, have had to strap on a wire mesh from Homebase to the top, so she doesn't get out a third time. It look UGLY but seems to keep the little girl inside... However, it's also important to note that because the plastic base has little notches/dints on it in places, these are tempting for the hamster to chew and she has managed to open up a hole in the cage which we are hoping she doesn't;t manage to expand to hamster-size before the new cage arrives... Also, be aware this cage does not include a water bottle so buy one ready for when it arrives. We did love the plastic sectioned tray to the side of the cage which is great for food and our hamster used one end of it as a toilet which made it really easy to clean regularly. Hammies are so clean :) The cage itself needed cleaning a bit less often because of this and when you do clean it, it's really easy to do so. It does take a lot of bedding/wood shavings because it's so big- so be aware of this also, it makes it more expensive to keep cosy. Long story short: perfect size for a Syrian, too small for anything bigger, but don't buy for a Syrian because he will escape!
