Our rats loved it

Our rats loved this cage they would take themselves home when out free ranging! A castle for 3 rats. So many options for enrichment. - fits dig box etc. Used it as one large active layout with just one shelf for food and then used dividers when a rat was poorly. Used the green hammocks but made simple fleece tops for them and they would snuggle between them. Just about to pass to another rattie owner but wanted to review first.

Terrible assembly instructions

Whilst the instructions are awful and difficult to follow, once you figure out the assembly the cage itself is really good. The fully opening front is a godsend for cleaning out as my last cage only has 2 small openings. The trays are really useful too rather than flat shelves. The cage is sturdy and seems well made. Really happy with it so far but well have to see how it hold up to toxic ferret deposits as the last cage rotted through!

Was very easy to build, very sturdy. The middle floor came bent but I wasn't planning on using that anyway.

Absolutely massive

Great cage, the reason I knocked a star off isn't petplanets fault or anything to do with the design etc, some parts were damaged due to the delivery driver throwing it on the floor and also having it leant up inside the van which curved a couple of the bars

Perfect size!

Okay so this cage is great for what I needed it for (housing my rats) arguably I'd argue this is a good size for 6-7 rats and it's great. If you're a first time owner here are my pros and cons PROS: - sooo big! It's a perfect amount of space - stand is on wheels which makes it so easy to move around a room if you need to hoover behind it All the shelves (including the second floor) can be removed and reattached easily and at any time meaning that when your rats are younger you can remove shelves and keep an active layout and add the shelves in to help them out as they age - locks are secure! Some cages have got fairly simple locks that rats can work out quickly and undo from inside the cage which has not been a problem with these - So easy to clean! Wipeable trays and bars as well as those huge double doors mean you can get to every corner fairly easily which is great for interacting with your pets too CONS: - so difficult to put together, I have a slight mobility difficulty and am quite short so part of my struggle is down to that however the instructions are also very vague and I found myself taking apart and reassembling several times because I'd used the wrong wall etc - can be quite loud, not personally a huge problem for me but the doors are quite shaky (they're still secure but do wobble when rats climb them or jump off them etc) and the sound can be irritating - part of the stand is a bit flimsy so I've chosen not to use it until I can reinforce it slightly as the part that holds in the base of the cage was very thin and very bendy steel that completely folded under pressure so I will have to fix this myself with a wood block to keep it up instead - vertical bars!! If you're getting rats you know the cage needs to be super busy and vertical bars for me just make it slightly more difficult to hang things up and can also make it slightly harder for an older rat to climb meaning the provided shelves will be important later EXTRA: Overall pretty great cage for a mid-size group (I'd say ideal for around 4 but could be stretched to double that in a pinch) The included hammocks are decent quality but I wouldn't rely on them too much as they aren't the BEST material and may be chewed through pretty fast however when my preferred hammocks are still in the wash my rats use these as a backup occasionally!
