Royal Canin Urinary is formulated for the nutritional management of dissolution of struvite uroliths, prevention of recurrence of struvite urolithiasis, and management of calcium oxalate urolithiasis.
In cases of recurrent idiopathic cystitis, Urinary Wet is recommended. Urinary Feline effectively dissolves struvite uroliths. Increasing the volume of urine simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with both calcium oxalate and struvite so that this diet produces a urinary environment unfavourable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. Undersaturated urine is an environment where crystals cannot proliferate. Thus the urine is unfavourable to the development of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals. Glycosaminoglycans that are naturally found on the healthy bladder mucosa are reduced in idiopathic cystitis. The reduction, responsible for increased bladder permeability to microorganisms, toxins and ions, results in stimulation of pain-sensitive receptors.
